Meet Dr. Katrina Hurley

I specialize in transformational coaching for leaders and healthcare professionals who want to enhance their effectiveness and sense of fulfillment in life and leadership. Together, we navigate complexity with connection and clarity about what really matters, developing skills to thrive – for both them and their clients. They gain actionable insights they can apply to their daily challenges to make a meaningful impact that aligns with their values.
I hold a Doctor of Medicine, training in Emergency Medicine, and a Master of Health Informatics. Early on, I shifted my clinical focus to children, and since 2009, I have been a staff physician in the IWK Emergency Department.
After a six-month family adventure in 2017, I returned with deeper family bonds and renewed curiosity and connection to my work. I stepped into the role of interim Medical Director, eventually becoming Chief of the IWK Emergency Department in 2019. This leadership experience led me on a growth journey as I worked with my team to adopt lean practices, design a new emergency department, and address challenges related to COVID-19 and health system crises. Today, I proudly hold the designation of Canadian Certified Physician Executive.
I care deeply about addressing burnout and understand its impact on satisfaction, innovation, and growth. To that end, I’ve undertaken formal learning in compassion fatigue, self-compassion, and mindful practice. I completed coaching certification with the Co-Active Training Institute and obtained the Associate Certified Coach credential through the International Coaching Federation. Additionally, I am certified in Leadership Circle Profile, a 360-degree evaluation tool.
I bring a unique combination of clinical experience, leadership skills and insights into compassion and anti-fragility to my coaching practice. My goal is to help clients grow their awareness as they face challenges, discover their potential, and cultivate authenticity and connection.
